A study led by researchers from the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest Health services analyzed data from 73 studies over the past 45 years. The studies involved adults over 50 who were involved in formal volunteering roles.

Regular practice of yoga can improve older adultsΓÇÖ performance of cognitive tasks, according to new research. Investigators from the University of Illinois found that eight weeks of hatha yoga classes, three times a week, led to speedier and more accurate performance on tests of information recall, mental flexibility and task-switching than before the patients had taken the yoga class.

Most everyone has at least one traumatic memory embedded in their brains. One that still resonates for me was the time my mother left me alone when I was six years old to take the baby sitter home. When I looked apprehensive, she told me not to worry. ΓÇ£IΓÇÖll be right back,ΓÇ¥ she said smiling brightly and drove off. As it got dark I became more and more frightened that something had happened to her and she wasnΓÇÖt coming back. By the time she returned I was totally terrified. She found me standing outside wailing. She scolded me and took me inside.

The great thing about living in a place that is a vacation destination is that everyone finally wants to come visit me. Not so when I lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma or Tarboro, NC. Not saying those places don't have their peculiar charm, but living next to a national park trumps azaleas and magnolias (in 104 degree heat) big time.

Love and the Mind

ΓÇ£How beautiful would it be to find someone who is in love with your mind?ΓÇ¥ One of the often ignored advantages to finding love later in life is finding someone who sees past your surface beauty. That special someone who takes the time to look all the way into your mind and your soul. This is a true gift of aging! This is an advantage I had no idea of back in early 2005 when I finally met the partner I had been seeking my whole life.
