What Is Romance in Marriage?

Romance: a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love, ardent emotional attachment or involvement between two people…      That’s what the dictionary says.

To me romance is the unconditional love I have felt from my husband, Mike, every day since we met over ten years ago.

Please allow me to share what love is to me…

Love is how Mike accepts me for who I am daily through my best and worst moods, without criticism. It is the way he shares no words of disgust or judgment when I show my most unattractive side to him.

The challenge then becomes responding with the same level of acceptance and love when he does something that bothers me. I have found that his heart-felt love makes this task easy for me. How could I not thrive when I am living surrounded by this level of affection, attention, and acceptance?

If you should struggle with uncertainty sometimes, wondering how to respond to unconditional love, the easiest way to answer that question is to ask yourself: How would I want to be treated?

Then go celebrate the fact that you have found one marvelous love in this lifetime who accepts you for exactly who you are!

“The mature response to the problem of existence is love.”
— Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving
